I use Windows xp professional sp 2 OS.The problem is my system takes a very long time to shutdown?

It takes nearly 5-7 minutes to shutdown!! i would also like to tell u that very often my system restarts on it's own after giving a notification of DEP (DATA EXECUTION PREVENTION)! please suggest some measure to overcome the shutdown problem!! please help as my system is taking longer than expected to shutdown!!!!!!!
