Farting around others?

Where did this ideal come from that farting around people is rude or embarrasing? that fact that people view it that way makes it seem worse off then it is. what pisses me off about people farting around me is that they dont warn me before hand and i have the liberty of the smell catching me off-balance. if your gunna fart, tell me first! so i can prepare my homemade sleeve-gas mask. but seriously`! people are too uptight with farting. it leads to silent but deadly farts which enrage people even more.
