Will resentment against illegal immigration and Mexican influence make some resort to terrorism vs. Mexico?
The continuing m immigration from Mexico and the growing cultural and political influence that Mexico wields in the United States has caused many Anglophone Americans to believe that their country has been invaded by foreign powers and that their government is either unwilling or unable to stem this phenomenon. ertions of ethnic nationalism by hispanics--such as the declaration of a "reconquista" in the southwest or the claim to an "Aztlan" homeland--seem to further stoke an Anglophone backlash. Frustrated by what they perceive to be a political system unresponsive to their concerns and interests, will some Anglophones ultimately resort to political violence to pursue their own agenda? Already some have observed the formation of private border patrol groups on the Mexican frontier. However, should ethnic tensions increase over the coming years is it possible that some groups would go to far as to plan and execute a systematic campaign of violence to deter Mexican political and cultural influence in the U.S.? Could the Anglophone population ultimately spawn its own version of the IRA, the ETA, or dare we say it--Al Quaeda--and wage war against all symbols of Mexican political power and influence both in the U.S. and Mexico? Potential targets could range from Mexican government and cultural sites in the Mexican homeland to the wideranging network of Mexican consulates and Mexican-American entities in the United States. Should this occur it would be a dark future for the North American continent indeed. This possibility may be far-fetched--and indeed let us hope that it is--but do you believe it is a potential reality?
