First baseman missing ?

today at my baseball game i was playing short and i slid to stop and a grounder and had to make a quick throw. the throw was about 3 feet above his head but he is very short and he didnt even jump for it. also later i was playing 3rd and the ball bounced 3 or 4 feet in front of the bag but he didnt try to catch it he held his mitt backand tried to get it after in bounced. I know i could have made better throws but i had to rush it and do u think he should have had these ?
