1997 Mercury Villager knock sensor?

I have a 1997 Mercury Villager, my father in law hooked his tester up to it because the check engine light was on and the code for a knock sensor came back. We spent $140 for the part and had it put on but the light is still on and the code is coming back as the knock sensor? Anyone ever had this happen before.
