Does the type of board you have affect your skateboarding?

I'm a beginner, right now im not doing anything more advanced than ollies and pop shove its but i practice quite a bit so i am improving.... right now i have a walmart board that i bought for 10 dollars... do i need a better board at this point and what is a good board that is affordable
